• What is Valtech Concierge?

  Valtech Concierge is a prototype AI-powered conversational commerce experience built by Valtech. It uses Google Cloud's Gemini Enterprise, Shopify and the Universal Commerce Protocol to turn natural-language conversations into guided product recommendations and in-chat transactions for a fictional luxury luggage brand.

• What is the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP)?

  The Universal Commerce Protocol is an open-source standard co-developed by Google, Shopify, Etsy, Wayfair, Target and Walmart. It provides a secure interoperability layer that lets AI agents discover merchant capabilities, initiate checkout sessions and complete transactions without requiring bespoke integrations for every AI surface.

• What is agentic commerce?

  Agentic commerce is the shift from passive digital storefronts to autonomous AI agents that can plan, reason and act on behalf of shoppers — including building carts, applying discounts and completing checkout. It represents the next evolution beyond chatbots, where AI moves from answering questions to executing multi-step commercial tasks.

• Is the Universal Commerce Protocol compatible with existing ecommerce platforms?

  UCP is designed to be platform-agnostic. It supports REST API and MCP (Model Context Protocol) transport bindings and is compatible with the Agent2Agent (A2A) and Agent Payments Protocol (AP2) standards. Shopify is a co-developer, and native SDKs are available for accelerated integration.
